Our visit in March was one with a smile and a tear. The extreme heat made it challenging, but we were fortunate to be able to cool off in our hotel at the end of the work day. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the locals. In their homes and huts, the heat lingers for a very long time. Fortunately, it has cooled down a bit since a few weeks, as the rainy season has begun.
Our manager, Lina, is incurably ill. Nevertheless, she was eager to come to the Rescue Center, probably for the last time. So she could see the new office and we ate cake together to celebrate. It was an emotional, but also beautiful afternoon. “Keep The Fire Burning,” she said at our farewell.
Of course, we also made home visits again. With our Every Child A Home program, we look at how the children who have been reunited with their families are doing. In some cases, the child still needs some support. Sometimes this is in the form of a mattress or food, other times in the form of guidance from our social worker.
And the Rescue Center is still desperately needed: in 2023 we will have taken care of 61 children, most of them girls. Since our opening, we have already taken care of a total of 432 children. We can use all the help we can get, so if you’re thinking “I’d like to contribute”, you can choose either a one-time or monthly donation through. Either way, you are making a big difference in a child’s life!
